Do YOUR labels define you?

I’m not talking about whether it’s Topshop or Balmain I’m talking about the labels you give yourself, I’m a procrastinator, I’m unorganized, I’m not confident.

Ask yourself this, are you’re self labels allowing you to get away with things?  So “I haven’t done that job on my to do list” and although it doesn’t feel great, but you know what “I’m a procrastinator” so that’s why I didn’t get it done.  Stop letting yourself of the hook, you’re doing yourself no favours and you will continue in the same cycle.

If you are going to label yourself, start now today by saying the opposite, so for example replace procrastinator with “I am proactive” say it over and over again, and keep telling yourself that. Repetition is key even if you feel resistance push through it, you will soon feel the change internally; it will shift your perspective to a proactive approach.

Self-talk is powerful beyond belief; feed yourself something positive, that will nurture you and move your forward not let you off the hook.

Have a great day

Jane

It’s all up to you

We can often put things on hold because of someone else, unknown to ourselves we can get tangled up in a web of ‘well if they change things would be better’, ‘I’d do more’, you know the stuff you’ve really been wanting to do for ages, it’s them that holds you back, damn them when are they going to change. I’ve come to tell you, they may never change, it’s not about them changing, it’s about you taking control. It’s about you taking control and creating that change that needs to happen. If you’re waiting for someone to change, it may never happen because they may be perfectly content or even far too lazy to do anything about it. Don’t put things on hold anymore, take control of your life and make things happen.

Your life is up to you.

Current Self, Future Self

Yesterday at the gym I noticed whom I call my squat partner, we’ve helped each other out when the other was flagging a few times. I asked how she was doing and she replied, “I’ve got 40 to go but I’m knackered”, I said “ok I’ll join you so we can both blitz it”.

Mid squat she told me her current self was fighting her future self; I liked the sound of this so I asked her what she meant. Her current self was saying “you’ve done enough, you don’t need to do another 40, go home”, however her future self was saying “you know you’re going to feel better for doing the extra 40 and you’re going to be pissed with yourself if you don’t.” I like this.

So instead of having that voice of doubt that pipes up every so often questioning if you have got what it takes to do what you want to do and maybe stopping you from going ahead. How about listening to your future self and hearing “I bet you’re glad you done that”.

Happy Sunday

Take 5.04 and Listen To This

As I was driving home from an appointment today, this was played on Radio 2.  I liked it a lot and wanted to share it, take 5 minutes and 4 seconds in your day to have a listen, you deserve it

Are You Going To Go First?

I love Seth Godin and I wanted to share these words from him.  I’ve added the link to his blog  below too, enjoy.

Who goes first?

Initiating a project, a blog, a wikipedia article, a family journey–these are things that don’t come naturally to many people. The challenge is in initiating something even when you’re not putatively in charge. Not enough people believe they are capable of productive initiative.

At the same time, almost all people believe they are capable of editing, giving feedback or merely criticizing.

So finding people to fix your typos is easy.

I don’t think the shortage of artists has much to do with the innate ability to create or initiate. I think it has to do with believing that it’s possible and acceptable for you to do it. We’ve only had these particular doors open wide for a decade or so, and most people have been brainwashed into believing that their job is to copyedit the world, not to design it.

That used to be your job. It’s not, not anymore. You go first.

Seth Godin

What will you do with your extra 24 hours?

I haven’t got the time; the days go so quick, where does the time go.  Sound familiar, well tomorrow you’ve got an extra day, yes a whole extra 24 hours to make the time.

It only comes once every four years and remember, time can never be taken back so do use it wisely.

Take that first step to trigger that change in your life that you’ve been talking about, for what seems like forever.

Happy leap year

WHY are you doing what you do?

WHY did you start your own company, take that job, go freelance.  Think back to WHY you made that move.  What was your WHY?

Was it because it was a great challenge, maybe you always wanted your own company, it would give you independence, you could show the world who you are creatively.

So now you’ve set up your own company, gone freelance or took that great job and it’s one, two maybe three years in and you’re well, a bit over it.  Yes I did just say that.

The original pride and rush of excitement when explaining to your team how important it is to be so meticulous and why that precision had to be so, has now turned into a “FFS I can’t believe they still don’t get it right”.

How your drive and determination of change when you first arrived at that company has now changed into “fine, put that s&^* graphic on that Tee”.

Seriously, are you excited anymore, are you driven (if so, brilliant keep it up).  Do you still bounce out of bed or is it a case of It’s my company I’ve got to get up or I’ve got a good salary, I best nod in agreement.  Or maybe its how Simon Sinek puts it, “its no longer a passionate pursuit, it’s just a business”

If so the question I have for you is, what are you going to do about it?

Have a think back to WHY you did it in the first place.  WHY did you start your company, WHY did you take that job, WHY did you go freelance.

What was your WHY?

Have a great weekend

New Year, let’s be realistic.

It’s the New Year so lets put loads of pressure on ourselves to commit to some New Year resolutions.  Erm, what about no.

It’s a bit mad really isn’t it, nice relaxing Christmas and then Bam, loads of pressure.  New year means new company, new job, new body, new house, new me.

I believe in starting as you mean to go on, so whatever it is you want to achieve be realistic.

It’s like eating a Terrys chocolate orange, you’re not going to shove it all in your mouth at once.  If you did, you’d probably choke, be sick and never touch another.  So instead you look at it, bang it in to segments and eat them one at a time.

When you’ve had enough, you wrap it up and put it away until the next day.  Then you go back and have another piece, before you know it, it’s all done.  Goal accomplished, the difference is, you broke it down, digested it and enjoyed it.

If you have a goal you want to achieve, set realistic daily and weekly tasks towards it.  By doing so it makes your overall goal more manageable, enjoyable and realistic to achieve.

You’ll be on to your next goal before you know it.

Here’s to your best year yet

What will you do for you in 2012?

What did you have on your personal to do list in 2011 that was going to make you happier, more balanced, that bit more relaxed.  Do you remember?

Now, if you’re doing it, brilliant, keep it up.  If you didn’t get round to doing it, what were the reasons.

Were you too busy running after business, too busy doing that other project that just had to be done (when realistically someone else could have done it), too busy running the family home after work.  Generally too busy giving to everybody & everything else, aside from you?

Whatever the reason, the year is nearly done so we can’t change that, however what we can do is focus on 2012.  So let’s do just that.

Firstly, are you committed to making a change, if yes read on, if no still read on!

What are you going to do to give yourself a more balanced life, make yourself happier, ensure you have more you time in 2012.

Will you delegate to your team, leave work on time or focus on getting into shape, what’s your goal?

The brilliant news is, you just need to make one change and it will have a positive effect on other areas of your life.

Let’s take the examples I just mentioned, when you do delegate, you can leave work on time, which makes time for exercise.  Simple!

Write down what you want to achieve.  Go on.

Now, what do you need to do to ensure you can set about achieving your goals successfully.  For e.g. do you need to plan what to delegate the day before or even better (if it works for you) plan the whole week ahead, the delegation plan!

Whatever is going to make it easier for you to achieve your you time, write it down.  Now.

We need to be realistic about your goals, things will come up from time to time, that’s life, life does not run in a straight line. So, what are the possible obstacles or distractions that may arise.  Write them down and next to them write how you will overcome them.  For e.g. make sure you leave work an hour early the next day.

Now make a note in your diary when you will take your first action.  Tell somebody who will hold you accountable, that way they can keep an eye on you and ensure your doing what you set out to do.  If you want to mail me your start date, I’m more than happy to check that your keeping on track.

Congrats, you’re on your way to making more you time and having a healthier Work/Life balance!

If you have any questions on the above, drop me a line, I’d love to hear from you jane@janedringcoachingcreatives.com

Thanks for reading
