I’m not talking about whether it’s Topshop or Balmain I’m talking about the labels you give yourself, I’m a procrastinator, I’m unorganized, I’m not confident.
Ask yourself this, are you’re self labels allowing you to get away with things? So “I haven’t done that job on my to do list” and although it doesn’t feel great, but you know what “I’m a procrastinator” so that’s why I didn’t get it done. Stop letting yourself of the hook, you’re doing yourself no favours and you will continue in the same cycle.
If you are going to label yourself, start now today by saying the opposite, so for example replace procrastinator with “I am proactive” say it over and over again, and keep telling yourself that. Repetition is key even if you feel resistance push through it, you will soon feel the change internally; it will shift your perspective to a proactive approach.
Self-talk is powerful beyond belief; feed yourself something positive, that will nurture you and move your forward not let you off the hook.

Yesterday at the gym I noticed whom I call my squat partner, we’ve helped each other out when the other was flagging a few times. I asked how she was doing and she replied, “I’ve got 40 to go but I’m knackered”, I said “ok I’ll join you so we can both blitz it”.
Mid squat she told me her current self was fighting her future self; I liked the sound of this so I asked her what she meant. Her current self was saying “you’ve done enough, you don’t need to do another 40, go home”, however her future self was saying “you know you’re going to feel better for doing the extra 40 and you’re going to be pissed with yourself if you don’t.” I like this.
So instead of having that voice of doubt that pipes up every so often questioning if you have got what it takes to do what you want to do and maybe stopping you from going ahead. How about listening to your future self and hearing “I bet you’re glad you done that”.

Genius, this has got to be my favorite quote. The reason being, it shows the power of the mind.
Our daughter was born on Friday the 13th this for me signifies an amazing day. Apparently walking over a block of 3 drains on the pavement is bad luck, I was so over avoiding them, I decided that it was good luck so now I traipse over them with a smile on my face.
My point being, whatever you see in a situation it will be, if you think it’s shit then I’m pretty sure it will be if you see it as a positive challenge then that’s what it will be.
You are in control of your thoughts, if they are stopping you from doing something in your life that will ultimately benefit you, make you happier then it’s you and only you that can make that decision to face that fear and change it.
How about this week taking a negative thought or fear that you have and turning it on it’s head, go on give it a go and enjoy the feeling of freedom.

Recently we’ve become the parents of an amazing baby girl and what I’ve noticed is how we celebrate her achievements. Now I’m not talking about missy winning her first skate comp (no pressure poppet) or doing her first windmill, she’s four and half months old that would be a bit odd. What I am talking about is missy doing a great burp, making new sounds or grabbing a toy; these bring us endless hours of proud sighs and happiness, we get proper excited about her day to day achievements.
Now it got me thinking again about us as adults and do we recognise what we have achieved or are we too busy focusing on what else we want to do that we rarely celebrate our day-to-day achievements.
Lets take 2013, have you taken any time to look back and see what you achieved in the past twelve months, if not take a few minutes right now. Maybe you got that job or client you wanted, started your own business, did an amazing shoot, started exercising or ran a marathon. Maybe you got out of the rut of a relationship you’re in or made the one you’re in even better, if so, nice one!
Often we focus on and are chasing the “bigger” and “better” things and miss out on the smaller things we achieve. Now I’m not saying you need to high five your bestie for breaking wind (I’m also not saying don’t), what I am saying is its important to acknowledge the small things that we achieve day to day rather than beating ourselves up about the things we haven’t done yet.
Why not make 2014 the year that you start giving yourself a break and recognising how much you actually do. Use your past achievements as a motivator to move forward and achieve more, you’ve proved you can do it, now keep it up.

What’s important is how you handle it and what you do next.
1. Embrace it
Recognise why you are not ok and say it out loud. A lot of the time it only takes saying something out loud and admitting it to ourselves that is enough to make us take the first step to change the situation.
Go on, look your inner control freak right in the eye and say “I’m not ok” it will just squirm and scuttle away, perplexed. This in turn will leave you feeling refreshingly empowered and free. Acceptance is a beautiful thing.
2. Ask for help if you need it
Only you will know who or what that help will be. It could simply be chatting to your best mate about it. Give yourself permission to ask for help, it’s ok!
3. Recognize what needs to be done to change the situation
We always have control, even if its 1% we can contribute to change a situation, that change can simply be how we deal with it in our heads. We can choose to say “No I’ve had enough I’m over it” or tackle it head on with an action plan. Think, what is in my control to change this situation.
4. Begin the change
That first step can sometimes be the hardest so keep focused on how good you’re going to feel once you’ve done it or the relief you will feel. One step at a time, that’s all it takes. Starting is the key.
And congratulate yourself on your new found freedom in whatever situation it may be.

Who goes first?
Initiating a project, a blog, a wikipedia article, a family journey–these are things that don’t come naturally to many people. The challenge is in initiating something even when you’re not putatively in charge. Not enough people believe they are capable of productive initiative.
At the same time, almost all people believe they are capable of editing, giving feedback or merely criticizing.
So finding people to fix your typos is easy.
I don’t think the shortage of artists has much to do with the innate ability to create or initiate. I think it has to do with believing that it’s possible and acceptable for you to do it. We’ve only had these particular doors open wide for a decade or so, and most people have been brainwashed into believing that their job is to copyedit the world, not to design it.
That used to be your job. It’s not, not anymore. You go first.

I received some tickets to an event in London this past weekend. It was called The Fuck It Weekend and it’s ran by a lovely couple called John and Gaia. It was great, we sat on the floor all weekend whilst chatting, dancing and doing both mind and physical exercise.
I wanted to share one exercise with you that we did that I really liked. It’s really simple and you can get really fast results from it.
- Make a list of what you love to do
- Make a list of what you don’t like doing
- Make a list of what you used to love doing
- Make a list of what you think you’d love to do
- Start doing more of what you love
- Start doing less of what you don’t like
- Think about why you’re not doing what you use to love doing
- Start finding out more about what you’d think you’d love to do
Fuck it and do more of what you love!
